The Educational Specialist in Second Language Instruction is for professionals with a master’s degree who wish to advance their second language instruction skills and knowledge at the post-master’s level without having to complete a dissertation. Focus of Study
The Education Specialist degree is a practitioner’s degree at the post-master’s level for those who seek advanced credentials but not a full doctoral degree with a dissertation requirement. The objective of the degree is to develop skills and competencies that will make the student a more effective leader in the field of Second Language Instruction. The Ed. S. in Second Language Instruction degree is designed for individuals with a master’s degree who will wish to advance their second language instruction knowledge and skills.

- Use research-based knowledge of language development, technology, and cultures to design and implement curriculum for second language learners. (AO4)
- Utilize researched-based academic theory, standards, and frameworks to guide content selection, evidence-based instruction, critical thinking, and original research development. (AO1)
- Analyze assessment instruments, materials, and data to enhance the academic and social development of second language learners. (AO4)
- Establish a culturally relevant environment by incorporating evidenced-based instructional resources, materials, and technology. (AO3)
- Develop multiple strategies to establish and maintain partnerships among school, family, and community, and advocate for the academic and social growth of English learners. (AO2)
- Engage in learning and leadership communities to analyze data, instructional practices, and research to better understand the academic and social needs of new language learners. (AO5)
- Demonstrate growth as a professional and leader in second language instruction by applying best practices, conducting research, and fostering innovative approaches to language acquisition in educational settings. (AO5)
